SUBJECT:

Amendment to San Antonio Women's Chamber of Commerce Lease Agreement

SUMMARY:

This ordinance authorizes amending a lease agreement with the San Antonio Women's Chamber of Commerce, which will authorize the Chamber to occupy all of Building 514 in Hemisfair and will delete the San Antonio Women's Pavilion, Inc. from the lease agreement.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

On September 30, 2010, City Council approved Ordinance 2010-09-30-0842, which authorized a lease agreement with the San Antonio Women's Chamber of Commerce and the San Antonio Women's Pavilion, Inc. for shared use of Building 514 (Max Schultze House; 860 square feet) as office space in Hemisfair. The Chamber is responsible for maintenance of the adjacent landscape (the building was previously occupied by the Bexar County Master Gardeners) and payment of utilities. On May 23, 2016, the Pavilion organization submitted a letter to the City, requesting to be removed from the lease at the end of June. On June 6, the Chamber's board of directors voted to assume full responsibility for the lease, subject to City Council approval. If the proposed lease amendment is approved by City Council, the use of the building as office space will not change. The Hemisfair Park Area Redevelopment Corporation supports the amendment.

ISSUE:

The San Antonio Women's Chamber of Commerce has agreed to assume all responsibility for the lease they share with the San Antonio Women's Pavilion, Inc. for use of Hemisfair Building 514 as a result of the Pavilion organization seeking to be deleted from the lease. City Council approval is required to amend the lease.

ALTERNATIVES:

The City Council may elect not to amend the lease with the San Antonio Women's Chamber of Commerce and the San ...
