Competitive Grants and Student Enrollment Update
SUMMARY:
This item will include a staff briefing of Year 1 of the Competitive Grants Program and a student enrollment update for the 2016-17 school year.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
During the April 5, 2016 meeting, the Board of Directors approved Grant Awardees for Year 1 of the Competitive Grants program. Contracts with grant awardees began with the 2017 Fiscal Year on July 1, 2016. Staff is in progress procuring materials for child development centers and public and private agencies will receive their first reimbursements no later than mid-September 2016. All grant awardees will be responsible for maintaining data for performance metrics selected in collaboration with Pre-K 4 SA. Performance metrics will be utilized to identify if awardees are granted a second year of funding. Pre-K 4 SA will also use the performance metrics for gauging progress of the Competitive Grants program.
Year 4 of the program will mark Pre-K 4 SA’s first year operating at full capacity for students. There will be approximately 2,000 students attending the program. This class will be comprised of students from the program’s seven participating independent school districts, scholarship, and tuition students.
ISSUE:
Staff will provide a briefing of the progress and future of Competitive Grants and an update on student enrollment for the 2016-17 class.
