Hail Damage at Education Centers


SUMMARY:

This item includes a staff briefing of the hail damage sustained at the North, West, and East Education Centers in April 2016.


BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

During the week of April 18, 2016, hail damage was observed at the East, West, and North Education Centers and the insurance adjuster set the reserve limits at $1.4 million, $2,000 and $10,000 respectively. No visible storm-related damage was observed at the South Education Center.

The East Education Center has the most significant amounts of damage to the building and structures. Pre-K 4 SA is coordinating with the Corporation's insurance provider through insurance broker McGriff, Seibels & Williams, Inc. to make all necessary estimates for repairs


ISSUE:

Pre-K 4 SA is coordinating with Markel Insurance through the insurance broker McGriff to obtain estimates and make the necessary repairs at the three hail damaged locations.

The East Education Center roof, metal structure, and canopies were all severely damaged while the West and North Education Centers sustained minimal damage to the metal fascia located at the main entry and to the aluminum casing protecting the coolant lines to the roof mounted AC units, skylight & roof vents, respectively.

Markel assigned insurance adjusters with Provencher Claims and MKA. The insurance adjusters and engineers visited the three properties during the week of May 23 and May 30, 2016 to provide estimated costs of repair. The Pre-K 4 SA insurance broker met with the adjusters at the East Center location on June 29, 2016 to identify damaged areas and coordinate a review and scope of damages.
