City Council Project Fund Allocation
SUMMARY:
This ordinance awards a grant allocation through the City Council Project Funds Program from four City Council Districts, in an amount not to exceed $16,000, to the Las Casas Foundation in support of the Joci Awards Performing Arts Scholarship Program. These funds support scholarships for San Antonio residents.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The Joci Awards Performing Arts Scholarship Competition works to identify students' artistic strength, encourage college enrollment and increase performing arts awareness and attendance. This program has attracted applicants from all 10 City Council Districts. Several past winners have since launched their careers in the arts and represent San Antonio on regional, state, and Broadway stages across the country. Each year, the Foundation awards $100,000 to 25 students competing in acting, singing, and dancing.
ISSUE:
The City Council Project Fund was created in 2012 to support programs and activities that benefit education, community events or youth and senior activities. The Ordinance governing the use of CCPF requires that project awards that exceed $10,000 receive City Council Approval.
This ordinance awards a grant allocation to the Joci Awards Performing Arts Scholarship in an amount not to exceed $16,000.
ALTERNATIVES:
City Council could decide not to approve these CCPF allocations.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This ordinance awards a grant allocation to benefit the Joci Awards Performing Arts Scholarship in an amount not to exceed $16,000. This is funded through the General Fund Adopted Budget for City Council Project Funds. Contributions to the grant were made by the following City Council Districts:
