SUBJECT:
Faith-Based Community Liaison.
SUMMARY:
An update on Councilman Medina’s Council Consideration Request (CCR) will be provided to the Governance Committee.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
On March 30, 2016, Councilman Medina, Council District 7, requested that the City of San Antonio create a dedicated, paid staff person to serve as a Faith-Based Community Liaison. This request was heard by the Governance Committee on June 15, 2016. The Committee recommended further study and research to develop a Faith-Based Community Liaison. The Committee requested that a recommendation be presented to the Governance Committee on August 16, 2016.
ISSUE:
The proposed Faith-Based Community Liaison would serve as a bridge between government and faith groups. The proposed liaison responsibilities include consolidation of faith-based and secular organization efforts to address community issues, including: economic recovery; poverty; support for women, children, and families; teenage pregnancy; engagement of youth; and job growth.
A position is recommended in the Department of Human Services to serve as the City’s Faith-Based Community Liaison.

Staff is requesting that the Governance Committee endorse the recommendation to add a Faith-Based Community Liaison for the City of San Antonio.
