SUMMARY:

A staff briefing and committee discussion on developing SA Tomorrow’s implementation strategy to include community outreach and the Unified Development Code update process.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The SA Tomorrow Comprehensive Plan is one of three growth-related plans addressing how the City of San Antonio's expected population growth will be balanced with social, economic, and environmental resources. The Comprehensive Plan will provide strategic direction for decision making and community investment to prepare our community for anticipated growth.

The SA Tomorrow Comprehensive Plan adopted Comprehensive Planning Program recommends a five year strategic action plan for implementation actions.

ISSUE:

The Department of Planning & Community Development will develop the Comprehensive Plan Implementation Strategy through December 2016. The Implementation Strategy will include the key short-term implementation goals along with a timeline.  Said goals include development of a Unified Development Code (UDC) update process as well as immediate initiation of Regional Center and Community-scaled planning.  Progress toward implementation of the adopted Comprehensive Planning Program will be dependent on funding approved through successive annual budget cycles.

Implementation of SA Tomorrow will also include community outreach and engagement at various levels, such as neighborhood summits and attendance at various community events.
