Briefing on the Military Transformation Task Force and SA Tomorrow

SUMMARY:

The Office of Military Affairs will provide a briefing on the Military section of the SA Tomorrow Comprehensive Plan and the proposed involvement of the Military Transformation Task Force.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The SA Tomorrow Comprehensive Plan is one of three plans which address how the City of San Antonio will prepare for the anticipated growth of 1.1 million people by the year 2040. Incorporated within the Comprehensive Plan effort are actions specifically addressing how the City will incorporate the military as an equal partner during the implementation of SA Tomorrow.

The Comprehensive Plan identified six goals for the City and Military to address:
(1) Minimize incompatible land uses in the vicinity of Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) locations in order to safeguard operational mission requirements
(2) Support for policies and investments that position San Antonio to retain and expand military missions
(3) Develop a regional approach to compatibility issues through communication and coordination between San Antonio, adjacent jurisdictions, and the military
(4) Support the integration of service members, veterans, and their families while improving quality of life and wellness initiatives
(5) Leverage and maximize the economic impact of the military on San Antonio
(6) Coordinate and invest with the military to minimize the impacts of future budget cuts and base closures

The Military Transformation Task Force (MTTF) was established by the City of San Antonio over a decade ago to work in partnership with local military installations and the community to address the challenges and opportunities arising as a result of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) law.
