Pre-K 4 SA Year 3 Independent Evaluation Report

 

 

SUMMARY:

 

This item includes a briefing of the Pre-K 4 SA Year 3 Independent Evaluation Report by Westat.

 

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

 

Prior to the 2013-14 school year began, the Board of Directors awarded a contract to Edvance Research. to conduct an independent evaluation of the program. The contract was approved with an initial five-year term, and one three-year renewal option. Edvance Research went on to produce and release reports for years 1 and 2 of the program which the organization presented to the Board of Directors in 2014 and 2015. In December 2015, Westat, a leading research organization, acquired Edvance Research. Westat has continued to assess Pre-K 4 SA to fulfill the original contract. Westat completed the independent evaluation report for the 2015-16 school year and will present findings to the Board of Directors. The report includes descriptive study results, implementation study results, and outcome study results for the following categories.

                     Descriptive Study: Child attendance, family engagement, and classroom observations

                     Implementation Study: Integrated curriculum, active learning, varied group settings, appreciation of varied cultures, executive function, teacher preparedness, and support, satisfaction and challenges

                     Outcome Study: Kindergarten readiness, differences in readiness outcomes

 

Measures are identified with the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS), Pre-K 4 SA Instructional Staff Survey (PK-ISS), Pre-K 4 SA Classroom Observation  Method (P-COM), and Teaching Strategies Gold (GOLD).
