SUBJECT:

Purchase of Light Duty Trucks for DSD Inspectors

SUMMARY:

An ordinance accepting the offer from Silsbee Ford to provide five additional light duty trucks for the Development Services Department for a total cost of $115,926.80. Funding is available from the FY2016 Development Service Fund.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Submitted for City Council consideration and action is the offer submitted by Silsbee Ford utilizing the Houston-Galveston Area Council (HGAC) cooperative contract number VE11-15 to provide five one-half ton extended cab pickup trucks funded through the FY2016 Development Services Fund for a total cost of $115,926.80, which includes a $600.00 Houston-Galveston Area Council (HGAC) cooperative contract fee.

This contract will provide the Development Services Department (DSD) with four additional light duty trucks to support the new Microsoft data center project. Microsoft Corporation is building a new data center, located in Bexar and Medina Counties, which is outside the City's jurisdiction. While the new facility is not required to adhere to the City's adopted policies and regulations regarding building codes and construction standards, the Microsoft Corporation requested that DSD provide professional services consisting of document reviews and construction inspections to document the extent of compliance with City building codes at its new facility. Upon completion of the Microsoft data center project, inspectors will be assigned to various inspector teams within the Development Services Department. The revenues received under the contract with Microsoft Corporation will offset the cost of the four trucks.

This contract will also provide one additional light duty truck for use by an inspector for solar projects. DSD is requesting a total of five additional light duty trucks to be utilized by newly hired inspectors.
