SUBJECT:

Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings professional services contract extension.



SUMMARY:

This Ordinance authorizes an extension of a professional services contract with Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings (LabCorp) to provide medical laboratory testing for the San Antonio Fire Department Wellness Center. The one-year extension will commence on January 1, 2017 for an amount not to exceed $60,000.00.


BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The FY 2010 budget approved the creation of a San Antonio Fire Department Wellness Program to monitor the health and wellness of its uniformed employees throughout their careers. This program was designed to provide early detection of serious medical conditions and encourage better health, thereby allowing our members to do their job more safely and effectively. The program was modeled after the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), International Association Fire Chiefs (IAFC) Wellness-Fitness Initiative (WFI) and in accordance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standards.

City Council Ordinance 2010-12-16-1102 authorized a professional services agreement with LabCorp for the provision of medical laboratory testing to determine if an employee may have a potentially life threatening medical conditional that requires treatment necessary to ensure that activities detrimental to the health and well-being of the employee are altered or ceased on December 16, 2010.



ISSUE:

The SAFD would like to extend the current contract for an additional year.


ALTERNATIVES:

If this item is not approved, SAFD will be unable to evaluate and employee's blood and urine for potential abnormalities.


FISCAL IMPACT:

This extension shall commence on January 1, 2017 and will continue through December 31, 2017 with one (1) one year extension. Expenditures for these services are subject to available fundin...
