City Council Project Funds Allocation (CCPF)
SUMMARY:
This ordinance awards grant allocations through the City Council Project Fund (CCPF) to support the following programs:
A) Musical Bridges Around the World (MBAW) to support the Kids to Concert program.
B) The Magik Theatre in support of the Tickets to Literacy Program.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The City Council Office began administration of the City Council Project Fund in 2012. At that time, several improvements to the program were made including; implementation of streamlined application (online), an election year moratorium, and City Council approval allocations exceeding $10,000 to an applicant for the same program, activity, events, good or service.
A) This ordinance awards a grant allocation to support the MBAW: Kids to Concert program in the approximate amount of $11,100.00. The program strives to introduce children to other cultures through international folk music at its best; to promote peace and respect for cultural differences; and to assist teachers and schools in fulfilling Academic Standards. Most San Antonio public schools do not have the funds to provide live music experiences as outlined in the National Academic Standards. MBAW takes the concerts to the schools, giving kids the opportunity to experience live performances while relieving districts of the logistical challenge and high cost of transporting students. With the support of the City Council Project Funds, concerts are held at schools throughout the City. Additionally, expenditures on this item comply with CCPF guidelines regarding restrictions and limitation related to the Moratorium.
