SUBJECT: Sunset of Certain Boards & Commissions
SUMMARY:
An ordinance sunsetting the Community Development Advisory Committee (CDAC) and the Convention and Visitors Commission (CVC).
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
In May 2015, the Governance Committee voted to convene an Ad Hoc Committee on Board and Commission Sunset Review, in accordance with Sec. 2-541 of City Code. The Ad Hoc committee met three times to develop recommendations to sunset, consolidate, modify, or review the City’s District boards and commissions. During this process, staff analyzed the legal basis of the boards and commissions, gathered data about vacancies and meeting frequency, gathered staff input, and surveyed members of several boards and commissions.
The Governance Committee convened on January 18, 2017 and recommended the sunset of the Community Development Advisory Committee and the Convention and Visitors Commission. The Governance Committee further recommended staff continue its review of the remaining District boards and commissions.
ISSUE:
Abolishing boards and commissions require City Council approval.
ALTERNATIVES:
City Council could choose to not abolish the Community Development Advisory Committee and the Convention and Visitors Commission.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact.
RECOMMENDATION:
The Office of the City Clerk recommends approval to abolish the Community Development Advisory Committee and the Convention and Visitors Commission and repeal the ordinances establishing and appointing their members.
