SUBJECT:

Replacement Chevrolet Tahoe Police Pursuit Vehicles

SUMMARY:

An ordinance accepting the offer from Caldwell Country Chevrolet to provide four replacement Chevrolet Tahoe Police Pursuit Vehicles for the San Antonio Police Department. Funding in the amount of $134,700.00 is available from the Equipment Renewal and Replacement Fund (ERRF).

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Submitted for City Council consideration and action is the offer submitted by Caldwell Country Chevrolet to provide the San Antonio Police Department with four Chevrolet Tahoe Police Pursuit Vehicles for a total cost of $134,700.00.

These patrol units are full sized Sport Utility Vehicles (SUV) that are used by the K-9 Division of the San Antonio Police Department. The functionality of these vehicles requires a larger layout for equipment than what is provided in the standard issue Ford Explorer Interceptor Police Pursuit Vehicles. Through extensive testing and evaluation by the San Antonio Police Department and San Antonio Police Officers' Association (SAPOA) Labor Relations Committee (LRC) unanimously chose the Chevrolet Tahoe Police Pursuit Vehicle. The recommendation to purchase Chevrolet Tahoe Police Pursuit Vehicle was presented to the Public Safety Council Committee on April 30, 2013.

ISSUE:

This contract will provide a total of four replacement Chevrolet Tahoe Police Pursuit Vehicles for the K-9 Division of the Police Department.

These vehicles will have a 3-year/36,000 mile warranty.

The Small Business Economic Development Advocacy (SBEDA) Ordinance requirements were waived due to the lack of small, minority, and/or women businesses available to provide these goods and services.

In accordance with the Local Preference Program, no local preference was applied, since the local bidder is not within 3% of the recommended lowest non-local bidder.
