Deductive Change Order and JOC Contract Award: Henry B Gonzalez Convention Center Expansion Project: Aluminum Plate Wall Guard
SUMMARY:
An ordinance authorizing a deductive change order to the existing Design-Build Contract with Hunt-Zachry, a Joint Venture, decreasing the contract amount by $199,877.40 for a total contract value not to exceed $306,800,122.60 for the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center Expansion Project and authorizing a Job Order Contract with Tejas Premier Building Contractor, Inc. in an amount not to exceed $199,877.40 to support the HBGCC Expansion Project in the installation of aluminum plate wall guard, a Texas Public Facility Corporation Contributions funded project located in Council District 1.

Project Background
The Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center (HBGCC) originally was constructed for HemisFair 1968. HBGCC was expanded and renovated in 1974, 1977, 1986 and again in 1999. In 2010, the City hired a consultant to perform a facilities development study of the Convention Center. Recommendations received from the consultant included the replacement of the 42-year-old west building by expanding the convention center to the east, in order to create contiguous exhibit halls and optimally distributed meeting spaces. Ultimately the plan to expand the Convention Center was brought before City Council on September 9, 2012 and awarded as a Design-Build contract to Hunt-Zachry, a Joint Venture, on October 10, 2012 through Ordinance 2012-09-20-0711.
This HBGCC expansion marks the largest single capital improvement project in the City of San Antonio's history and increased the HBGCC footprint to 1.65 million square feet.
