SUBJECT:
Terminal B-Dumpster Stormwater, Recycling and Sanitary Improvements project at the San Antonio International Airport
SUMMARY:
This Ordinance authorizes the appropriation of funding in the amount of $100,000.00 from the Airport Improvement and Contingency Fund for the Terminal B-Dumpster Stormwater, Recycling and Sanitary Improvements project at the San Antonio International Airport.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
In a dedicated, external area of Terminal B next to airline lease space, the floor drain is continually blocked causing rainwater, effluent and debris to flow towards the lease space of the airline. The problem has created an odor that needs to be addressed. The Terminal B-Dumpster Stormwater, Recycling and Sanitary Improvements project will correct this stormwater drainage area containing a dumpster, compactor, and recycle unit.
Funding in the amount of $100,000.00 will be appropriated into the project and allow design work by an on-call environmental consulting service firm to begin. Funding for the construction/reconstruction phase will be considered during the FY 2018 budget development process.
ISSUE:
City Council authorization is required for the appropriation of funds into capital projects. Addressing this issue will also ensure that the City remains in regulatory compliance.
ALTERNATIVES:
City Council could elect to not approve the appropriation. However, this Council action will allow design work to begin to improve public safety and the environment around the area.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This action will appropriate a total amount of $100,000.00 from the Airport Improvement and Contingency Fund for the design of the project. Funds for the construction phase of the project will be considered in future fiscal years, subject to City Council approval of the Aviation Capital Improvement Program.
