SUMMARY:

This Ordinance authorizes an extension of a professional services contract with VHS San Antonio Imaging Partners L.P. dba Baptist M&S Imaging to medical imaging services for the San Antonio Fire Department Wellness Center. The one-year extension will commence on January 1, 2018 for an amount not to exceed $60,000.00.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The FY 2010 budget approved the creation of a San Antonio Fire Department Wellness Program to monitor the health and wellness of its uniformed employees throughout their careers.  This program was designed to provide early detection of serious medical conditions and encourage better health, thereby allowing our members to do their job more safely and effectively.  The program was modeled after the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), International Association Fire Chiefs (IAFC) Wellness-Fitness Initiative (WFI) and in accordance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standards.

ISSUE:

The SAFD would like to extend the current contract for an additional year.

ALTERNATIVES:

If this item is not approved, SAFD will be unable to evaluate an employee’s chest cavity for potential abnormalities.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This extension shall commence on January 1, 2018 and will continue through December 31, 2018 with one (1) one year extension.  No funds are appropriated by this action. Expenditures for these services are subject to available funding through the Fire Department’s fiscal year 2018 and 2019 Adopted General Fund Operating Budget. The City will make no minimum guarantee pertaining to the volume of work which may be expected from this agency.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends authorizing the extension of the existing professional services agreement with Baptist M&S Imaging to provide medical imaging for the SAFD Wellness Center.
