SUBJECT:

Fire Station Furniture


SUMMARY:

This ordinance authorizes acceptance of a contract with Dreamseats, LLC for the purchase and delivery of fire station furniture for various fire facilities for a total cost of $162,224.15 for the San Antonio Fire Department. Funding is available from the General Fund.


BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Submitted for City Council consideration and action is the attached tabulation of one competitive bid for fire station furniture for a total cost of $162,224.15.

This purchase of dayroom furniture from Dreamseats, LLC will consist of a combination of 3 club chairs, 3 loveseats, 4 sofas, 135 single recliners, 12 double recliners and 8 triple recliners. This commercial grade furniture is specifically designed for continuous use facilities and is constructed with a hardwood frame, "no-sag" spring suspension and high resiliency foam. The dayroom furniture will replace existing furniture at 26 various fire stations.

The furniture is covered by a limited lifetime warranty with an estimated 10 year life expectancy.


ISSUE:

The Small Business Economic Development Advocacy (SBEDA) Ordinance requirements were waived due to the lack of small, minority, and/or women businesses available to provide these goods and services.

There were no bids submitted from local bidders for this contract; therefore, the Local Preference Program was not applied.

The Veteran-Owned Business Program does not apply to good/supplies contracts, so no preference was applied to this contract.


ALTERNATIVES:

Should this contract not be approved, the San Antonio Fire Department will continue to use existing furniture that has reached the end of its useful life and for which repairs are not cost effective.
