SUBJECT:

Purchase of Rear Load Refuse Collection Trucks


SUMMARY:

This ordinance authorizes the acceptance of a contract with Rush Truck Center to provide the Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) with a total of 12 replacement rear load refuse collection trucks for a total cost of $1,817,798.00. Funding is available from the FY 2018 Equipment Renewal and Replacement Fund (ERRF) Budget.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Submitted for City Council consideration and action is the attached offer to provide the SWMD with a total of 12 replacement rear load refuse collection trucks for a total cost of $1,817,798.00. This purchase will provide eight Hino 195h Hybrid Cab & Chassis with a 9 cubic yard Heil rear load sanitation trucks; two Hino 338 Cab & Chassis with a 17 cubic yard McNeilus standard rear load sanitation trucks; and two Peterbilt 220 Cab & Chassis with a 17 cubic yard McNeilus standard rear load sanitation trucks. These are replacement units to the City's fleet and will be utilized by SWMD.

The 9 cubic yard rear load refuse collection trucks will be used for collection of curbside refuse and recyclables from downtown City residences and businesses. SWMD currently has five 9 cubic yard rear load refuse collection trucks in their fleet. The 17 cubic yard rear load refuse collection trucks will be used on narrow streets and alleyways for collections of refuse, recyclables and organics from City residences. SWMD currently has six 16 cubic yard rear load refuse collection trucks in their fleet. This purchase will allow for the replacement of twelve existing 10 cubic yard rear load refuse collection trucks that are being reconfigured to the 9 and 17 cubic yard rear load refuse collection trucks.
