Purchase of Police Motorcycles
SUMMARY:
This ordinance authorizes acceptance of the offer from Kent Powersports to provide 11 replacement police motorcycles for a total cost of $319,252.23 over a two year period. FY 2018 funding for five replacement motorcycles in the amount of $145,114.65 of which $124,429.00 is available from the FY 2018 Equipment Renewal and Replacement fund (ERRF) Budget and $20,685.65 is available through the FY 2018 Police General Fund Budget. Additional motorcycle purchases for replacement in FY 2019 would be subject to the appropriation of funds.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Submitted for City Council consideration and action is offer submitted by Kent Powersports to provide 11 replacement Honda Goldwing Police Motorcycles for a total cost of $319,252.23. The contract will provide five replacements in FY 2018 and six replacements in FY 2019. There are currently 22 motorcycles and 4 spares in the City's fleet.
Through extensive testing and evaluation, the SAPD and San Antonio Police Officers' (SAPOA) Labor Relations Committee (LRC) unanimously chose the Honda Goldwing Motorcycle. The LRC reviews equipment requirements in support of law enforcement operations. The patrol units are replaced at 36 months in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). The proposed recommendation complies with all requirements as set forth in the CBA. The recommendation to purchase Honda Goldwing Motorcycles was first presented to the Public Safety Council Committee on October 24, 2012.
These motorcycles will be utilized by the Police Department and will provide vital support to public safety, law enforcement and security for the residents of the City of San Antonio and surrounding areas.
