SUBJECT:

Resolution supporting the acquisition of real property.


SUMMARY:

A Resolution supporting the acquisition of 3.0 acres of real property located on South Foster Road between Interstate 10 and East Houston Street for the purpose of building Fire Station 54 which would serve the recently annexed area of the City.


BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

On August 31, 2017, City Council approved the Foster Road and IH 10 East/Loop 1604 Interchange Annexation Area. It is the intent of the City that services under the "Service Plan" shall provide full municipal services as required and defined by the Texas Local Government Code such as: police and fire protection, emergency medical services, solid waste collection, water and wastewater facilities, road and street maintenance, as well as other services not mentioned here. Per the Annexation Service Requirements, The San Antonio Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services will provide fire and medical emergency service to the Annexation consistent with the provision of services in like areas of San Antonio.
Until Fire Station 54 can be built, San Antonio Fire Department is providing fire protection and emergency services from Fire Station #18 at 1463 S. WW White Road and Fire Station #30 at 919 Gembler Road.


ISSUE:

A Resolution supporting the acquisition of 3.0 acres of real property located on South Foster Road between Interstate 10 and East Houston Street for the purpose of building Fire Station 54 which would serve the recently annexed area of the City.


ALTERNATIVES:

Planning Commission could choose not to approve the purchase; however, the City would not be keeping with the intent of the Service Plan and would put a strain on current local services and potentially puts the health and safety of our citizens at risk.
