SUBJECT:

Accepting funds in the amount of $300,000.00 from the San Antonio Conservation Society in support of the restoration and rehabilitation of the historic Pump House at Brackenridge Park and execution of a Funding Agreement.

SUMMARY:

This ordinance authorizes the acceptance of funds in the amount of $300,000.00 from the San Antonio Conservation Society to support the restoration and rehabilitation of the historic Pump House at Brackenridge Park located in Council District 2 and execution of a Funding Agreement.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

In recognition of the Three Hundredth Anniversary of the founding of San Antonio, the San Antonio Conservation Society has selected a project that exemplifies their contribution to preservation and restoration of San Antonio’s rich historic fabric. Founded in 1924 the San Antonio Conservation Society is one of the oldest and most active community preservation groups in the United States and has established a valuable partnership with the Parks and Recreation Department.

The San Antonio Conservation Society has pledged to raise $300,000.00 in contributions toward restoration of the historic Pump House No. 1 located on the San Antonio River at the north end of Brackenridge Park. Acceptance of these funds will facilitate a one-time contribution from the Society in three installments which will augment the 2017 Bond Funds. The Pump House was built as part of the City’s original waterworks established by George Brackenridge in the late 1800’s, and is one of the City’s oldest existing industrial buildings. This project is aligned with the adopted Brackenridge Park Master Plan.

ISSUE:

This ordinance authorizes the acceptance of funds from the San Antonio Conservation Society in support of the restoration and rehabilitation of the historic Pump House at Brackenridge Park located in Council District 2 and execution of a Funding Agreement with the Society.

ALTERNATIVES:

The City could elect not to accept the Society’s funds in support of the restoration of the historic Pump House No. 1 in Brackenridge Park which would limit scope of projects funded through the 2017 Bond Program for Brackenridge Park.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This ordinance authorizes the acceptance of funds in the amount of $300,000.00 from the San Antonio Conservation Society to support the restoration and rehabilitation of the historic Pump House at Brackenridge Park located in Council District 2 and execution of a Funding Agreement. There is no fiscal impact to the General Fund. The Society’s financial contribution to assist with the renovations of the historic Pump House will result in cost avoidance to the City.
