BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Mayor Ron Nirenberg formed the Planning Commission Subcommittee to address the unusually high number of Planning Commission applications received by the Office of the City Clerk.  He asked the City Clerk to staff the Subcommittee and facilitate the selection process.  The Subcommittee terminates upon submission of the nine (9) recommended applications to the Governance Committee.

Each Governance Committee member will be permitted (but not required) to add one applicant to the list of interviewees, if not previously recommended by the Subcommittee.  There are currently four (4) slots available with terms of office to expire October 6, 2019.  Two (2) applicants are seeking reappointment.

ISSUE:

Board Appointments require full City Council approval.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no fiscal impact.

RECOMMENDATION:

The City Clerk recommends proceeding with the Planning Commission Subcommittee’s recommendation of their nine (9) recommended applications being herewith submitted to the Governance City Council Committee for their review.

Once reviewed at the Governance City Council Committee; and taking into account the possible addition of applicants; the City Clerk recommends that interviews be scheduled for the February Governance City Council Committee Meeting.
