SUBJECT:

The dedication of a 0.05 of an acre (2,164 square feet) pedestrian easement, located in NCB 139, Lot 15, as requested by the Weston Centre.

SUMMARY:

A resolution recommending the dedication of a 0.05 of an acre (2,164 square feet) 2-part pedestrian easement located in New City Block 139, Lot 15, consisting of Part 1 - 0.039 of an acre on Pecan Street; and Part 2 - 0.011 of an acre on Soledad Street, as requested by the Weston Centre in Council District 1.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The Weston Centre is located at 112 E. Pecan Street. It leases commercial office space. In response to an increase in ride-sharing, the Weston Centre is constructing non-exclusive, 15 minute passenger loading zones in front of the office building along both Soledad Street and Pecan Street. This will alleviate vehicles frequently stopping in the travel lanes of the adjacent public streets. A Site Work Permit for the improvements has been submitted to, and approved by, the city's Development Services Department and Transportation & Capital Improvements (TCI), Traffic Plan Technical Review. The review identified pedestrians being pushed onto the Weston Center's private property. As a condition to constructing the loading zones, the Weston Center is required to dedicate a pedestrian easement to allow for continuous pedestrian travel.

The Weston Centre was then referred to TCI Real Estate to coordinate the proposed dedication. The request to accept the dedication of a Pedestrian Easement by Weston Center was reviewed and approved by city departments and municipal utilities. City Council authorization is required to acquire real property interests.
