Consideration of At-Large Appointments to the Planning Commission (4 Slots)

 

SUMMARY:

 

On January 17, 2018 the Governance Council Committee convened to review and consider nine (9) applicants selected by the Planning Commission Council Subcommittee for interviews to fill four (4) available slots.  Each Governance Council Committee Member was permitted to submit one (1) additional applicant to the list of interviewees.  In addition to the recommended slate, Mayor Nirenberg submitted applicant Christopher Victoria and Councilmember Viagran submitted applicant Connie Gonzalez.  The following were selected for interviews:

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Mayor Ron Nirenberg formed the Planning Commission Subcommittee to address the unprecedented high number of Planning Commission applications received by the Office of the City Clerk.  He asked the City Clerk to staff the Subcommittee and facilitate the selection process.  The Subcommittee terminated upon submission of the nine (9) applications selected and forwarded to the Governance Committee.

 

Each Governance Committee member was permitted (but not required) to add one applicant to the selected slate.  There are currently four (4) slots available with terms of office to expire October 6, 2019.  Two (2) applicants are seeking reappointment and were selected by the Planning Commission Subcommittee for interviews.

 

ISSUE:

 

Board Appointments require full City Council approval.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no fiscal impact.

 

RECOMMENDATION:

The City Clerk recommends approval of the Governance Council Committee’s selection and that same be submitted for the City Council Meeting on March 8, 2018.
