Review of VIA Metropolitan Transit Authority Applications (5 slots)
SUMMARY:
The Governance City Council Committee will convene to review the VIA Metropolitan Transit Authority applications received by the Office of the City Clerk and provide their recommendations for interviews. Interviews will be held on April 4, 2018. Five board positions are available for terms expiring as follows:
Three positions are for the remainder of unexpired terms of office to expire December 31, 2018. Two positions are for the remainder of unexpired terms of office to expire December 31, 2019.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
VIA manages and operates the Metropolitan Transit Authority within Bexar County, Texas. VIA is governed by a Board of Trustees with eleven appointees, five of which are appointed by the San Antonio City Council. Board members are appointed to staggered two-year terms and may serve up to eight years. Four positions are available for members whose terms have expired. Lester Bryant and Steven Hussein are seeking reappointment to terms of office expiring December 31, 2018; Patricia Y. Rodriguez and Robert Comeaux are seeking reappointment to terms expiring December 31, 2019. There is one vacancy, for a term to expire December 31, 2018.
ISSUE:
Board appointments require full City Council approval.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact.
RECOMMENDATION:
The Office of the City Clerk will contact the recommended applicants for interviews for the Governance City Council Committee Meeting on April 4, 2018.
