SUBJECT:

Funding Agreement: Brackenridge Park / Witte Museum Parking Garage Expansion Project


SUMMARY:

An ordinance for the Brackenridge Park / Witte Museum Parking Garage Expansion, a 2017-2022 Bond funded Project, authorizing the execution of a Funding Agreement between the City of San Antonio and The Witte Museum in an amount not to exceed $2,594,096.93 of which $500,000.00 will be from the 2018 Deferred Maintenance Fund and $94,096.93 from the Energy Efficiency Fund for facility expansion and site improvements to the parking garage located near The Witte Museum on Avenue B in Brackenridge Park, located in Council District 2.


BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

On May 6, 2017, San Antonio residents voted and approved the 2017-2022 General Obligation Bond Program totaling $850 million. The existing Brackenridge Park / Witte Museum Parking Garage is a 118,464 square foot facility located on Avenue B in Brackenridge Park, near The Witte Museum in Council District 2. This agreement will allow for improvements with $2,000,000.00 allocated from 2017-2022 Bond Funds, $500,000.00 allocated from the 2018 Deferred Maintenance Fund and $94,096.93 from the Office of Sustainability's Energy Efficiency Fund.

The improvements to the existing parking garage include construction of an additional floor of parking to expand parking capacity by approximately 117 new spaces, a new pedestrian entrance on the facility's northeast corner for improved access to the Park and Museum and associated site work, landscaping and irrigation improvements as well as lighting retrofits to ensure more sustainable fixtures are in place. The Witte Museum will construct the improvements to the Brackenridge Park / Witte Museum Parking Garage in accordance with the bond brochure and funding agreement to ensure continued use by the general public.
