Disposition: Closure of an unimproved portion of Applewhite Street Public Right of Way located between 1602 South Flores Street and 202 Peters 1
SUMMARY:
A Resolution supporting the closure, vacation, and abandonment of an unimproved 0.146 of an acre of Applewhite Street Public Right of Way, located between 1602 South Flores Street and 202 Peters1, in Council District 5, as requested by SOFLO OF SA LLC, for a fee of $48,355.00.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
SOFLO OF SA LLC, Petitioner, is requesting the closure, vacation, and abandonment of an unimproved 0.146 of an acre (6,356 square feet) of Applewhite Street Public Right of Way, as shown on attached Exhibit A. Petitioner is the sole abutting property owner and with the approval, of the proposed closure, the properties would be combined and platted into a unified parcel of land, which would facilitate future development of the site.
ISSUE:
This resolution will support the closure, vacation, and abandonment of an unimproved 0.146 of an acre of Applewhite Street Public Right of Way, located between 1602 South Flores Street and 202 Peters 1, in Council District 5, as requested by SOFLO OF SA LLC, for a fee of $48,355.00.
SOFLO OF SA LLC, Petitioner, is requesting the closure, vacation, and abandonment of an unimproved 0.146 of an acre (6,356) square feet of Applewhite Street Public Right of Way, as shown on attached Exhibit A. Petitioner is the sole abutting property owner and with the approval of the proposed closure, the properties would be combined and platted into a unified parcel of land, which would facilitate future development of the site.
This action is consistent with City Code and Ordinances, which require City Council approval for the sale or disposition of City-owned or controlled real property.
ALTERNATIVES:
The Planning commission could choose not to support this request; however, if not approved, the right-of-way will remain underutilized.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The fee established for this property is $48,305.00, utilizing Bexar Appraisal District assessed land values as provided by Chapter 37, section 2(g)(2) of the City Code. With added administrative costs, the City will collect a total of $48,355.00 for this property, and the revenue will be deposited into the General Fund in accordance with the FY 2018 Adopted Budget.
Also, the property will be placed on the tax rolls, generating revenue for the City of San Antonio and other taxing entities.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval of this request to close, vacate, and abandon an unimproved portion of Applewhite Street Public Right of Way, in Council District 5.
