San Antonio Housing Authority’s Mozilla Foundation Award
SUMMARY:
The San Antonio Housing Authority (SAHA) submitted an application as part of the Mozilla Foundation’s ‘20 Big Ideas to Connect the Unconnected’ program. SAHA won a $10,000 honorable mention grant to create a proof of their solar mesh Wi-Fi concept.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
SAHA is one of 20 Stage 1 winners of the Mozilla Foundation ‘20 Big Ideas to Connect the Unconnected.’ SAHA submitted an affordable, scalable, open source, and secure solution to improve and expand digital access across the San Antonio community. SAHA has now been invited to build a working prototype as part of the second stage of the competition.
SAHA won a $10,000 honorable mention grant to create a proof of their solar mesh Wi-Fi concept. This project integrates mesh Wi-Fi access points into solar-powered light poles in order to provide connectivity to low-income households with bandwidth is provided by T-Mobile.
