Information about the EPIcenter organization and its areas of focus
SUMMARY:
The purpose of this item is to provide the Innovation and Technology Committee with an overview of the EPIcenter organization and its areas of focus.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
In 2015, CPS Energy and its New Energy Economy (NEE) partners OCI Solar, Silver Spring Networks and Landis+Gyr announced the launch of EPIcenter as a non-profit, private operating foundation. The partners formed a board of directors and hired a chief executive officer to lead the organization and bring the center to fruition.
EPI stands for Energy - Partnerships - Innovation. EPIcenter is transforming an historic 1909 power plant by turning it into a world-class center that will be the hub for clean energy technology innovation, education and community engagement, and entrepreneurial incubation and ideation.
EPICenter is led by CEO Kimberly Britton is building her team, establishing the organization’s infrastructure, finalizing plans for the property, and raising the $74.5 million needed to retrofit the former Mission Road Power Plant into the headquarters for innovation that will be EPIcenter.
