SUBJECT: A briefing by VIA Metropolitan Transit (VIA)

SUMMARY:

A briefing by the President and CEO of VIA on the implementation of the City’s FY 2018 $4.3 million investment in VIA and on VIA’s Mobility on Demand Request for Proposal.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

As part of the FY 2018 Budget, the City entered into an agreement with VIA to provide $4.3 million in FY 2018 (increasing to $10 million in FY 2019 and beyond) for service improvements along a total of nine routes and nine corridors.

VIA is performing a Comprehensive Operational Analysis (COA) to identify strengths and weaknesses of VIA service and explore opportunities to increase ridership and improve service efficiency and cost effectiveness. As part of the COA, VIA is examining the role of alternative mobility options and the feasibility of integrating them into the greater VIA network.    Currently, VIA is soliciting proposals from public and private mobility service and technology providers to assist with the development and implementation of a Mobility on Demand pilot project. The Mobility on Demand service is to serve the general population by providing shared rides in certain zones of the VIA service area.  VIA will provide and update on the status of the COA and a current solicitation of a mobility on demand service.
