Tour of the University of Texas at San Antonio Innovation Lab and Advanced Visualization Lab

SUMMARY:

As part of the June 2018 Innovation and Technology Committee Meeting, the Committee will tour the University of Texas at San Antonio Innovation and Advanced Visualization Labs.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The Center for Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship (CITE), an interdisciplinary center in the Colleges of Business and Engineering at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), was established in 2006 to create a pipeline for UTSA faculty, students and the surrounding business community to develop new technology ventures. Through a process including education, experience, resources and support, CITE is focused on fostering the growth of new technology-based ventures.  Created and managed by CITE, the Innovation Lab is a place where students can create, invent, explore and discover using a variety of tools and materials. The lab allows students to design, prototype and manufacture items using state-of-the-art tools such as 3-D Printers, digital fabrication machines and computer-aided design software.

The UTSA Advanced Visualization Laboratory (VizLab), managed by the Office of Information Technology (OIT) Research Computing Support Group (RCSG), allows researchers from all disciplines of art, science, and engineering to conduct simulation and visualization research to better understand complex phenomena and translate data into images on large-scale and high-resolution visualization walls or other display devices. The laboratory supports UTSA's mission of teaching, research and community engagement and contributes to UTSA's goal to recruit the world's top computational researchers.
