Sports License Agreement with Highland Warhawks Youth Football and Cheer
SUMMARY:
This Ordinance authorizes the Parks and Recreation Department to execute a Sports License Agreement with Highland Warhawks Youth Football and Cheer for operations and maintenance at the designated sports fields at Southside Lions Park for a five (5) year term.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The Highland Warhawks Youth Football and Cheer has established a community presence over the last 35 years. The league utilizes the designated sports fields at Southside Lions Park to provide organized youth sports activities during the fall season; the league served approximately 130 area youth in 2017. The league is required to share the football field with Highlands High School, which utilizes the field for practice during the school day.
The current agreement expires on September 30, 2018 and a new Sports License Agreement is proposed to commence on October 1, 2018 and expire December 31, 2023. In lieu of rent, the league shall be responsible operations and maintenance of the designated sports fields at Southside Lions Park. In addition, the league will be permitted to operate concessions with proceeds benefitting their program and to offset the cost of operations and maintenance.
ISSUE:
This ordinance authorizes the Parks and Recreation Department to execute a Sports License Agreement with Highland Warhawks Youth Football and Cheer at Southside Lions Park. The Agreement will be for a five (5) year term. This action is consistent with City policy to facilitate the use of parks for athletic and recreational activities by the citizens of San Antonio.
ALTERNATIVES:
