SUBJECT:

Briefing on a Council Consideration Request (CCR) from Councilman Clayton Perry. The CCR is a request to Review Current Veteran Initiatives and Military Programs.


SUMMARY:

On 18 April 2018 Councilman Perry submitted a CCR requesting a comprehensive overview of all Veteran-based initiatives and programs in place by City of San Antonio staff. The Office of Military and Veterans Affairs (OMVA) convened meetings with City of San Antonio Departments to identify current practices related to the CCR. These include Veteran hiring preferences, internship/fellowship opportunities, affordable housing, educational opportunities, Public-Public/Public-Private (P4) Partnerships, and Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) preparations.



BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The City of San Antonio's Human Resources, Finance, DHS, and OMVA (GPA) Departments, and the Chair, Commission on Veterans Affairs offer a number of support services/opportunities to Veteran City employees and non-City employee veterans. In addition, the City has partnered with the military in a number of areas such as P4, provision of services and infrastructure improvements to name a few. This review is intended to ensure the City is doing all it can to support military and Veterans.


ISSUE:

The briefing provides an overview of current practices and overview of support/services and initiatives by the City in support of the military and military veterans.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no fiscal impact at this time.


RECOMMENDATION:
