Acceptance of a Land Donation from the Timber Ridge Community Association

SUMMARY:

This resolution recommends the Planning Commission authorize the acceptance of a property donation from the Timber Ridge Community Association of 3.01 acres of land located at 3103 Rim Rock Trail. The property will be utilized as a future neighborhood park in Council District 6.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The proposed property donation will be utilized for the future development of Timber Ridge Park as a neighborhood park in Council District 6. This acquisition is consistent with the policies outlined in the SA Tomorrow Comprehensive Plan which recommends increasing the number and quality of parks to ensure a more equitable distribution of parks and recreation opportunities.

Discussions began with the representatives from Timber Ridge Community Association, District 6 Council Office and the Parks and Recreation Department in early 2018. The Parks and Recreation Department has worked closely with the neighborhood and Council Office to address the desire for additional park land in the community.

The current property is a former neighborhood recreation facility which is no longer utilized and provides an opportunity to add public parkland in an underserved area. The nearest public park to this neighborhood is over one and a half miles away, and is not accessible by foot to the residents of the Timber Ridge neighborhood. The donated property will be developed using $550,000.00 in funding allocated in the approved FY 2019-FY 2024 Capital Improvement Program Budget.
