SUBJECT:
Ozone formation study results and recommendations
SUMMARY:
Dr. Harvey Jeffries will provide a presentation of results of his study on ambient ozone formation using San Antonio air quality monitors.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
On September 24, 2018, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) designated Bexar County in marginal nonattainment of federal ground-level ozone standards. Harvey Jeffries, PhD is a nationally recognized atmospheric chemist that has been studying ozone formation for many years. He has been successful in other Texas cities in providing analysis for lowering ozone levels. Dr. Jeffries uses a unique innovative graphical analysis method. He has performed a site-by-site, hour-by-hour, year-by-year analysis of ozone, wind data and other available observational data from San Antonio air quality monitors, including the non-regulatory monitors, for the purpose of improving the understanding of ambient ozone formation and trends leading to exceeding the EPA Federal Ozone Standard.
Dr. Jeffries will present results obtained, gaps in data and recommendations for next steps to lower the ozone level in San Antonio.
