Amendment and extension of professional services contract for San Antonio Fire Department Wellness Center Laboratory Services
SUMMARY:
This ordinance authorizes a professional services agreement with Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings (LabCorp) to provide laboratory services for the San Antonio Fire Department Wellness Center for an estimated cost of $20,000.00. Funding for this contract is available in the FY 2019 General Fund Adopted Budget.
This amendment will allow for an extension on a month to month basis for a four month period and will not extend beyond April 30, 2019.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The FY 2010 budget approved the creation of a San Antonio Fire Department (SAFD) Wellness Program to monitor the health and wellness of its uniformed employees throughout their careers. This program was designed to provide early detection of serious medical conditions and encourage better health, thereby allowing our members to do their job more safely and effectively. The program was modeled after the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF)/International Association Fire Chiefs (IAFC) Wellness-Fitness Initiative (WFI) and in accordance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standards. The SAFD has an existing contract with LabCorp to provide laboratory testing for the SAFD Wellness Center. That contract will expire on December 31, 2018, and there are no more extensions available. This ordinance authorizes the amendment and extension to allow the City to complete the Request for Proposal review process.
ISSUE:
This ordinance authorizes the amendment and extension of the Professional Service Contract with LabCorp, for an amount not to exceed $26,500.00, on a month to month basis for a four month period beginning January 1, 2019 and not to extend beyond April 30, 2019.
ALTERNATIVES:
If this item is not approved, SAFD will be unable to evaluate and employee’s blood and urine for potential abnormalities.
FISCAL IMPACT:

RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends authorizing the amendment and extension of the professional services contract with Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings (LabCorp) to provide testing of blood and urine for the SAFD Wellness Center.
