SUMMARY:
This item includes a staff briefing of Family Engagement endeavors in the 2018-19 school year.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The Family Engagement Team was formed in the 2017-18 school year after extensive research identified impactful strategies to support families as advocates for their children and leaders in the learning community. Pre-K 4 SA currently has four parent liaisons who work with families at the Education Centers to facilitate family programming and provide wraparound service referrals and resources. A Family Specialist, who holds a professional social worker license, also serves on the team. The Family Specialist supports parent liaisons by helping to assess the needs families in crisis and to build mutually beneficial partnerships with community organizations. The Family Engagement team also has a Family Program Development Coordinator, whose role is to facilitate the development of the program model, build the professional capacity of the Parent Liaisons, and elevate Pre-K 4 SA’s visibility among key stakeholders through the development of family ambassadorship and leadership. The Family Engagement team is managed by an Assistant Director who supports the development of the program model, supervise the Family Engagement team, and keep the PLI director and Center Directors informed of developments and events.
