SUBJECT:

Amendment #2 Renewing the Sports License Agreement with San Antonio Elite, a Youth Soccer Academy


SUMMARY:

This Ordinance authorizes the Parks and Recreation Department to execute Amendment #2 renewing the Sports License Agreement with San Antonio Elite, a Youth Soccer Academy for operations and maintenance of the designated sports fields.


BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

San Antonio Elite, a Youth Soccer Academy has an established community presence since 2014. The league utilized the designated sports fields at 1600 E. Bitters Rd to provide organized youth sports activities year round; the league serves over 1,000 youth per week.

On February 20, 2014, the league entered into Sports License Agreement for approximately 15 acres of Aviation Department land, located at 1600 E. Bitters Rd. which is leased to the Parks and Recreation Department, for a five (5) year term ending on February 28, 2019, with a renewal option of an additional term of five years. On August 8, 2016, Amendment #1 approved additional 0.49 acres to allow for expansion of the League's parking space.

Amendment #2 shall commence upon Council approval and expire December 31, 2023. In lieu of rent, the league shall be responsible for operations and maintenance of the designated sports fields at 1600 E. Bitters Rd. In addition, the league will be permitted to operate concessions with proceeds benefitting their program and to offset the cost of operations and maintenance. All other terms and conditions of the current Sports License Agreement will remain in effect.


ISSUE:

This ordinance authorizes the Parks and Recreation Department to execute Amendment #2 renewing the Sports License Agreement with San Antonio Elite, a Youth Soccer Academy at 1600 E.
