Amendment to Hologic Testing Platform Contract
SUMMARY:
This ordinance authorizes an amendment to a contract between the San Antonio Metro Health District and Gen-Probe Sales & Service, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hologic, Inc. for an estimated annual cost of $297,000.00 funded through the Texas State Health Services Department, STD Staff Support Program.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The San Antonio Metro Health District (SAMHD) receives a grant award on an annually recurring basis from the Texas Department of Health Services (TDSHS) to forward the mission of the City's STD/HIV Prevention Program to provide diagnosis, treatment, and partner notification services to residents in San Antonio and Bexar County. The Hologic (Gen-Probe) testing technology was adopted by the State of Texas in the late 1980's. SAMHD has utilized this technology since the early 1990's. The reagents, test kits and supplies in this contract amendment can only be utilized with Hologic equipment.
Funding for this contract was authorized through Ordinance 2018-11-29-0941 which accepted funds from TDSHS for the STD Staff Support Program. The TDSHS contract is funded by a pass-through grant from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Funding Opportunity Number PS14-1402, CFDA #93.977.
Prior to this contract amendment, the day to day ordering activities were coordinated through TDSHS. This contract amendment will allow for the continued lease of testing equipment and purchase of specific STD reagent test kits and supplies through a City specific contract with Gen-Probe Sales & Service, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hologic, Inc. Hologic is the only company that can provide testing kits and reagents for the equipment currently utilized by Metro Health. It is expected that this City specific contract will significantly decrease lead times that were experienced through TSDHS.
