SUBJECT: SAtoDC Update

DATE: March 1, 2019

At the Intergovernmental Relations Committee meeting on March 6, 2019, Government & Public Affairs will provide a report on the 2019 SAtoDC visit, to include an update on the status of action items stemming from meetings that took place during the visit.

SAtoDC 2019
The San Antonio Chamber of Commerce's annual SAtoDC trip took place from February 4 - 7, 2019. For 40 years, the SAtoDC trip is an opportunity for business and community leaders to advocate on behalf of the needs of the San Antonio community. The SAtoDC trip included 185 attendees that advocated on 12 issue teams that met with congressional offices and agencies, as well as a series of panel discussions on topics such as trade, cybersecurity, transportation & infrastructure and military.

On a parallel track from the SAtoDC agenda, GPA staff secured additional meetings with key Congressional members and Federal Agencies to advocate for city federal priorities. Some of the topics covered in meetings during the SAtoDC visit and that will be discussed with the Committee include:
* Military protection: Sustain and enhance JBSA's mission readiness and ensure long term protection of the region's military bases by helping to preserve, protect and grow military missions and installations in the region.
* Aviation infrastructure: Support alternative funding sources to improve airport infrastructure and passenger experience.
* Transportation infrastructure: Support for the city's multimodal transportation plan to help meet the community's transportation goals by identifying new funding sources and advocating for funding increases in key programs.
* Emergency preparedness & homeland security: Support for programs and increased funding to promote a multi-jurisdictional, multi-disciplinary approach to regi...
