SUBJECT:

Consideration of Applicants to the Goal Setting Committee (2 Slots)

 

 

SUMMARY:

 

The Economic and Workforce Development City Council Committee will review five (5) applications and recommend two individuals for appointment to the Goal Setting Committee.  One (1) slot is vacant due to the resignation of Lester Bryant.  The terms of office have expired and the remaining Citizen Representative currently serves in holdover status. The following applicants have applied for consideration:

 

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The Small Business Economic Development Advocacy (SBEDA) Ordinance requires the creation of a Goal Setting Committee that establishes aspirational and contract-specific small, minority, and women-owned business enterprise goals for City of San Antonio Contracts. The Goal Setting Committee is chaired by a representative of the City Manager and includes representatives from the Economic Development Department, Purchasing and General Services, Transport and Capital Improvements Management Services, and on a rotating basis, a representative from the department from which contracts will be reviewed. Two Citizen Representatives also serve on the Goal Setting Committee and vote when reviewing contracts over $3 million and when establishing annual aspirational goals.  The terms of office are for one year of the appointment date of which both expired on January 18, 2019.   

 

ISSUE:

Board appointments require full City Council approval.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no fiscal impact.

 

RECOMMENDATION:

The Office of the City Clerk recommends approval of the Council Committee’s recommendation for two appointments to the Goal Setting Committee.  The recommendations will be submitted to the full City Council on April 18, 2019 for approval.
