Disposition: Close, vacate, and abandonment of a section of Lester Avenue
SUMMARY:
A Resolution authorizing City Council to close, vacate, and abandon a 0.328 acre (14,266 square foot) section of improved road way known as Lester Avenue from the alley north of McKenna to the intersection of Quintana Road in Council District 5, for the purpose of the Quintana Road Realignment Project.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The Port Authority of San Antonio is requesting to close, vacate and abandon a 0.328 acre (14,266 sq. ft.) section of improved road way known as Lester Avenue from the alley north of McKenna to the intersection of Quintana Road. The purpose of this closure is to support the Quintana Road Project which will rehabilitate and realign the roadway as well as provide flood control improvements from Harrmon Avenue to McKenna Avenue, and to facilitate truck traffic to the Port Authority of San Antonio Rail Yard area. This project is the result of an Interlocal Agreement with the Port Authority of San Antonio and an Advanced Funding Agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation, which was authorized by City Council in Ordinance 2014-06-26-0506.
ISSUE:
The Port Authority of San Antonio has requested to close, vacate and abandon a 0.328 acre (14,266 sq. ft.) improved section of roadway known as Lester Avenue. The section of roadway to be closed is bound by the City of San Antonio to the west, and the Port Authority of San Antonio to the east. If the request is approved, the Port Authority of San Antonio can proceed with the Quintana Road Realignment Project flood control improvements.
The proposed closure was canvassed through city departments and utilities, and was approved per Chapter 37.
