SUMMARY:
Government and Public Affairs, the department that manages implementation of the City’s State Legislative Program, will provide an update on affordable housing related bills filed during the 86th State Legislative session.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
During the March 24 meeting, the Commission requested an update on legislation that would affect City Housing Policy. The 86th State Legislative Session began on January 8, 2019. The Government & Public Affairs Department (GPA) manages implementation of the State Legislative Program, which identifies the priorities and initiatives the City will support each session.
GPA will provide an overview of affordable housing related bills that have been filed. This legislation includes proposals that would enhance affordable housing options through affordable housing tax credits, community land trusts, homestead preservation districts and other tools, as well as legislation that would limit property tax payments for residents who have maintained the same residence for at least 15 years and have had their property tax payments increase by 120 percent or more.
