SUBJECT:

Contract Award: Terminal A Renovations Phase III Sewer Replacement Project at San Antonio International Airport

SUMMARY:

An ordinance accepting the lowest responsive bid and awarding a construction contract in the amount of $490,341.00 to Robinson General Contractors, Inc. for the Terminal A Renovations Phase III Sewer Replacement Project, an Interim Airport Financing project, located at the San Antonio International Airport.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Project Background
Built in 1984, Terminal A has experienced multiple infrastructure changes over the years including the completion in 2014 of a major Renovation and Expansion Project. Over the phased construction, the airport received brighter, modernized hold rooms, restrooms, ticket lobby, baggage claim area and food courts as well as accommodated expanding passenger gates, lease spaces and checkpoint lanes. During the renovation, a portion of the 35 year old sanitary sewer system was not resized to handle the increased sewage flow. Over time the capacity of the pipe has been reduced due to corrosion and calcification, reducing its carrying capacity causing frequent blockages, backups and overflows.

The authorized amount of $490,341.00 will provide for the installation and integration of new sanitary sewer lines to replace aged and deteriorated sections of sewer line between gates A8 through A16. Work will include installation of sump pumps, grinders, equipment power modifications, new connections to existing electrical switch boards, panels, circuits and reconfigured replacement of perimeter guard railing.

Project construction is anticipated to begin July 2019 and estimated to be completed by November 2019.
