Funding Agreement: UTSA Athletics Complex (2017 Bond Project)


SUMMARY:

An ordinance authorizing the negotiation and execution of a funding agreement between the Roadrunner Athletic Foundation and the City of San Antonio in an amount not to exceed $10,000,000.00 for improvements to University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) Athletics Complex, a 2017-2022 Bond Funded Project.


BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

On May 6, 2017, San Antonio residents voted and approved the 2017-2022 General Obligation Bond Program totaling $850 million. The Bond Program funds will be used on various capital improvement projects addressing community infrastructure needs to improve the overall quality of life in San Antonio. As part of the program, $10,000,000.00 in Parks, Recreation and Open Space Improvements General Obligation Bond Funds was approved for improvements towards improvements to University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) Athletics Complex to include but not limited to locker rooms, showers and restrooms.

UTSA is a multicultural university institution with more than 32,000 students and it the largest university in the San Antonio metropolitan region. UTSA is planning on constructing a $44 million new Roadrunner Athletics Center of Excellence which will serve as a hub for the 350+ student-athletes participating in 17 NCAA Division I sport programs at UTSA. The center is intended to serve as a comprehensive multi-purpose sports performance center with a focus on providing resources that address student-athlete academic success, safety, performance and wellness.
