SUBJECT:

 

Resolution calling on state and federal government to take action to address gun violence.

 

 

SUMMARY:

 

This item approves a Resolution calling for action by the Texas Legislature and United States Congress to take action to address gun violence and to review available alternatives and policies to enhance the safety of San Antonio residents.

 

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

 

The City is committed to the safety, health, and welfare of all of its residents. Ensuring the safety of San Antonio residents, public safety officers, and visitors is a top City priority.

 

ISSUE:

 

This Resolution calls for action by the Texas Legislature and United States Congress to address gun violence and sets out that City Council will review available alternatives and policies at the local level to enhance the safety of San Antonio residents.

 

 

ALTERNATIVES:

 

Council would make no public declaration at this time concerning avenues to address gun violence.

 

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

 

There is no fiscal impact as a result of this item. 

 

 

RECOMMENDATION:

 

Staff recommends City Council approve this Resolution, call upon the Texas Legislature and U.S. Congress to address gun violence, and for the City to review available actions and policies at the local level that could enhance the health, safety and welfare of San Antonio residents, public safety officers, and visitors.
