Grant Submittal and Acceptance for a New Taxiway at Stinson Municipal Airport
SUMMARY:
City Council consideration for the submittal and acceptance of a grant from Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) in the amount of $162,000.00 for the design services and environmental assessment of a new taxiway at Stinson Municipal Airport (Stinson). This project will design and construct Taxiway E, which is parallel to Runway 14/32.
As part of the grant requirement, TXDOT will administer the grant funds and oversee the project from design through project close out. This action will also authorize matching funds from the Stinson Revolving Fund in the amount of $18,000.00 and authorize execution of all necessary grant documents.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The Aviation Division of TXDOT and the City's Aviation Department have worked to develop a project at Stinson in order to design and construct a parallel taxiway (Taxiway E) to Runway 14/32 to enhance future development of the adjacent land and safety by reducing the runway crossing once the land is developed.
As a condition of the grant program, TXDOT will be authorized as the agent for the purpose of administrating all funds for these improvements, selecting the consultants and contractors and administering the contracts necessary for the implementation of these improvements. As such, TXDOT must receive the matching funds prior to implementation of the various work efforts.
ISSUE:
City Council approval is required for the submittal and approval of grants with TXDOT. This action is consistent with City Council's policy of improving facilities at Stinson Municipal Airport and utilizing federal funding when available.
