SUMMARY:
Briefing on the Status of the Removing Barriers Committee
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The Removing Barriers Committee was created as a result of the Mayor’s Housing Policy Taskforce. The Committee is working to propose revisions to the UDC that remove barriers to affordable housing and has broken into the following subcommittees:
1. Public Engagement & Outreach: this subcommittee focuses on how, who, and where we engage the public throughout this process.
2. Accessory Dwelling Units: the focus of this subcommittee is to propose amendments to the UDC that will encourage the construction of ADU’s while keeping them in character with the neighborhood
3. Regulatory Cost Burden: the focus of this subcommittee is to address all other aspects of the UDC that contribute to the cost of building affordable housing such as the tree ordinance, parking regulations, utilities, street construction standards, and storm water management
ISSUE:
The Removing Barriers Committee is to brief the Commission on their progress and requests input from the commission about the definition of affordability.
