SUMMARY:
The purpose of this item is to provide the Innovation and Technology Committee with an overview of CPS Energy’s Electric Vehicle (EV) program strategy, EV Charging Infrastructure & Pilot EV Program Customer Offerings.
BACKGROUND:
CPS Energy’s goal is to enable the electrification of transportation in our community by delivering customer options that allow us to optimize our infrastructure while delivering a meaningful customer experience. We intend to accomplish this by expanding customer value to increase EV adoption, understand customer needs through focus groups and engaging with our customers to create valuable rates and incentives that will also reduce grid impacts. We will collaborate and partner with industry, customers and other utilities and facilitate the development of EV infrastructure into our community.
To support the growth of EVs in San Antonio and alleviate range anxiety CPS Energy promotes the development of electric vehicle infrastructure throughout the city of San Antonio. We own and operate 150 Level 2 charging ports across 30 locations throughout the city of San Antonio and are in the process of upgrading our network to the latest technology for a better customer experience. Currently the City of San Antonio has more than 240 charging ports to serve our plug-in electric vehicle population.
ISSUE:
As part of our strategy at CPS Energy we are developing 4 pilot programs for residential applications which will provide customers with energy savings in exchange for their participation in shifting their charging behavior to optimal time periods. We are also developing programs that will facilitate further build outs of public charging infrastructure by providing incentives for commercial customers to install and own charging stations at their own facilities.
