SUBJECT:
Ratification for Repairs and Enhancements of Fire Alarm System
SUMMARY:
This ordinance authorizes ratification of expenditures to Western States Fire Protection Co. in the amount of $84,000.00 for updates to the fire alarm system at the Frank Garrett Community Center for the Department of Human Services. Funding is available from the department's FY 2020 General Fund budget.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The City of San Antonio conducted the required annual inspection of the fire alarm system at the Frank Garrett Community Center. A number of items were identified during the inspection that needed to be addressed in order for the building to pass the inspection. The inspection identified the system as being non-compliant and the alarm panel was yellow-tagged. Additionally, since the Early Head Start Center is operated in the same facility, it would have failed its inspection as well.
The inspection conducted by the Western States Fire Protection Co. was verified by the San Antonio Fire Department prior to the authorization of repairs and enhancements to the Fire Alarm System. Due to the increased risk for potential hazards to the safety of individuals including youths and senior citizens who utilize the building, the vendor was authorized to perform repairs addressing deficiencies in a timely manner.
